Linda Perhacs – Parallelograms (1970)

Yet another lost and rediscovered late-60s/early-70s psych-folk gem. This one’s been a favourite for a while. It’s the only album she ever made, and it’s astounding just how fully realized and unique her style is. The way she sings and layers her voice, in particular, is unlike anything I’ve ever heard. The songs are great too. Everyone needs to download this.

  1. Very nice album...I've been into the sirens of late...really enjoy the Meg Baird solo stuff as well. On the more abstract Joanna Newsome-esque tip, have you heard of Larkin Grimm? She's got a wild record out there. Also, the 'houses' track that Vetiver covered turned me on to Elyse Weinberg, though the whole album isn't as great as that selection...c'est la vie! Thanks again C, for the tunes.

  2. Hey, thanks for the comments, and for recommending Larkin Grimm. I found The Last Tree on mediafire and am listening to it now. Amazing stuff, right up my alley.

  4. Certainly a classic singer/songwriter LP and better than the reductionist Joni Mitchell comparisons a lot of critics make. Reviewed it on my blog.
